Atari 800 games shamus

I bought it because it was a cheep game. I got to the end of the game,I remember it was the red labyrinth and moves were very fast. I was 13 at the time. I bought it because I was fascinated with Tim Boxell's artwork and the Shamus character. I would see Synapse Software's ads all the time in magazines like Electronic Games.

To this day it is probably my favorite game for the Atari 8-bit computers. The depth of the exploration amazed me. I played for hours and finished it on Novice the first day. I was obsessed. A trick I quickly learned is to hold down the fire button and tap the joystick very quickly to clear out enemies in groups. I think this game is a masterpiece. To think William Mataga crammed all of that gameplay into just 16k of memory!

Why did so many programmers from that era including William Mataga undergo sex change operations??? An excellent addictive arcade game. Quite incredible to think this was written in Much harder to play on a PC emulator though as this really does need the digital joystick.

Additional Comments. Take that, sweetheart Once in a while during your search you will encounter a pulsating question mark, the function of which is similar to "Chance" in Monopoly. By touching the punctuation mark you invite extra points and extra lives or ill fortune. I have found it hard to resist them in the long run. To advance to a higher level, you must obtain the correct keys and unlock the correct portals. This calls not only for keen aim of your weapon, but knowledge of the labyrinthian layout of each maze.

Secret passages abound, and it is quite easy to get lost. The bottom of the screen reads out a corresponding number for each room, and this is the only hint you get.

And thank you for the first comment to the site! I will put Star Raiders on my cart right now. I played Shamus back when it first came out the cassette version! It was my second game ever, right after Star Raiders which I bought with my Obviously it was a very long time ago, but I LOVED that game and played it to death, and still have fond memories of it. And I swear that I recall beating it.

Log in. Comments Feed. Anyway, how do some of the Atari games hold up? April 11th, pmat. A barricade in the battlefield can have one or two characters composing it get zeroed out. If not, press Start and repeat, usually can be seen in 5 or fewer repetitions. You see a pair 16 bits of zeros being barfed randomly into memory where it doesn't belong, a tad unsettling. Upon checking for multiple triggers of the same worm, there are 5 which checksum different regions of the programs.

Fandal's download cracks the first worm but leaves the other 4 active which doesn't cause trouble because the checksums match. Luckily the Cheaters I described don't affect those checksums, but, to make the entire game editable one must remove all 5 worms. There is a code worm, but first, there are 2 different program versions. Our download here now has type 1 cassette image plus a type 1 disk, disk maybe a cracked version of the cassette.

Green snakes still kill tho. This may not be my last comment here, but I'll be writing less from now on. Smell you nerds l8r. Muffy St. LOTS of fun! Once you've adjusted to the game-play and controls you can overcome the obstacles even the "sliding ladders" that at first seem impossible.
